Saint Lambert was written for CMV Jeduthun Oldemarkt for their 110th anniversary (1905-2015). The work is based on the legend of Saint Lambertus. He was appointed Bishop of Maastricht in the seventh century. The work opens with the main theme followed by the Sacred theme. The first part depicts the unstable political situation that eventually leads to the exile of Lambertus. In the second part, we find Lambertus braving the snow and cold while continuing to murmur his prayers, this miracle leading to his final declaration as saint. In the third part it is Ascension Day in Oldemarkt where the ‘Lambertusmarkt’ takes place and we hear the Bach chorale “Als Vierzig Tag nach Ostern”.
