Suite of Incidental Music for brass band with narrator (optional), arranged by Paul Hindmarsh
This suite has been drawn from Wilfred Heaton’s incidental music for a Salvation Army production or
Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress that took place in South Africa in the early 1950s. The original music was
performed by a four-part choir, small brass band and pianist. The four movement suite is rated for
brass band (SA Triumph Series instrumentation) with optional narration or extracts from Bunyan’s text.
Heaton based the music on the hymn tune Monksgate, which is itself a version of the English folk song
collected and arranged by Vaughan Williams.
