It’s very true to say that the older marches we have been weened on are the best. For me, William Rimmer & George Allan stand out with their “Knight Templar” and Rimmer’s “The Cossack.” The format of these marches is a clear winner, with the main intro, bass end volley, a calmer middle royal Elgarian section, a return to the intro theme, repeat bass volley, and coda, Job done in 4 plus minutes.

So, taking the unbeatable format, I have composed L’Enchanteur, as after the intro we have a short mystical section with a large outburst of strength and power of a true magician, hence the title. It is a technical challenge, but I think the music and the two themes are memorable and worthy, I suppose, of championship section standard.

Knight Templar comes in at 4 mins 34 sec, and my

L’ Enchanteur comes in at 3.53 could save 10 mins on a Whit Friday? Will a band take it on for Whit?https://youtu.be/PHKho8bhLZ8
